Taxon Description

Plant 6–20 cm. Tubers 1 or 2, globose to oblong, ca. 1.8 x 0.7 cm. Stems glabrous, basal sheaths 2 or 3, overlapping, tubular. Leaves oblong-lanceolate to elliptic-lanceolate, subacute, 2.5–5.5 X 1–2 cm, sessile, sheathing at the base. Inflorescence 3–8 cm, few- to many-flowered, minutely pubescent. Sterile bracts absent. Fertile bracts foliaceous, lower bracts oblong-ovate, twice as long as the flowers, upper bracts lanceolate, smaller. Flowers uniformly light pink to pale purple, ca. 1 cm across, pedicel and ovary fusiform, curved, puberulous, ca. 1 cm. Dorsal sepal erect, ovate-lanceolate, 4.5–6 X 2.0 mm, 1-veined. Lateral sepals ovate-lanceolate, 5–6 X 2 mm, acuminate, spreading, 1-veined. Petals ovate-lanceolate, weakly falcate, 4–5 X 2 mm, 1-veined. Lip simple to obscurely 3-lobed, spurred, 7 — 9 X 7 mm, broadly obcordate, mucronate; spur conical, ca. 3 mm, short. Column 1.5–2 mm.

Distribution:  Nepal, India, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Myanmar.

Altitudinal range: 1000-2600 m.

Ecology: On grassy ground in Pinus forest.

Flowering: July-August.

Uses: Medicine, food.
