Taxon Description
Epiphytic or lithophytic herbs. Rhizome stout with fibrous roots. Pseudobulbs ovoid, conic, pyriform, or turbinate, compressed toward apex to form a neck. Leaves 1–2, plicate, base contracted into a petiole-like stalk. Inflorescences arising from base of an old pseudobulb, often or rarely 2, erect, appearing either before or after leaves, 1- or 2-flowered; floral bracts persistent. Flowers widely opening. Sepals free, spreading, often subsimilar. Petals spreading, similar to sepals but usually narrower than sepals. Lip entire or obscurely 3-lobed, apical margin erose or lacerate; disk consisting a callus with several lamellae or rows of papillae. Column arcuate, slender, winged above, apex erose; pollinia 4 in 2 pairs. Fruit fusiform.
