Stem sheathed with tubular sheaths at base, erect, single to several spaced or clustered leaved at base, near middle or above middle. Leaves basal and cauline, spaced or clustered, green, sessile, linear, lanceolate, ovate or oblong, oblanceolate, base contracted. Inflorescence racemose or rarely subcorymbose, erect, peduncle terete to ridged, glabrous, with or without sterile bracts; often laxly-flowered; floral bracts lanceolate, ovate, ovate-triangular, oblanceolate, apex rarely lobed. Flowers erect, horizontal to nodding or resupinate; often yellowish-green, ovary and pedicel straight or arcuate, apex beaked, hooked or not hooked, twisted or not, fusiform, cylindric-fusiform. Sepals subequal, dorsal sepal usually adnate with petals and forming a hood or rarely free from petals, often concave, lateral sepals usually spreading. Petals free or adnate to dorsal sepal, smaller than sepals, often thickened and fleshy. Lip entire or lobed, base shallowly concave, saccate or spurred with or without basal callous. Column short; anther loculi parallel, pollinia 2, granular-farinaceous, sectile, each attached to a viscidium through short caudicle; viscidia discoid, globose or involute and hornlike, naked; rostellum triangular, with arm-like lobes; stigma lobes 2, free, raised, clavate or pulvinate; staminodes 2, usually prominent.
